The chord zither (akkordzither) was conceived for austro-bavarian folk music. However, French zitherists were quick to realize that in spite of its apparent simple technique it had an extraordinary capacity of being adapted to other styles of music, thus lending itself to many different uses.

The chord zither can be played either by itself or with other instruments, with its diversified repertory and large field of accompaniment and improvising. For this reason it can be used for meditation, prayer, liturgy, accompanying religious and secular songs, music therapy, background music on various occasions, etc...
